IDO Security Cites Global Need for MagShoe™ Following Report of Afghan Assassination Attempt With Guns Hidden in Shoes
NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire -05/02/12)- IDO Security Inc. (IDOI.OB – News) developer of the innovative MagShoe@trade; shoe scanning device (SSD), responds to an episode in which weapons were hidden in shoes that evaded an American-operated full-body scanner and nearly succeeded in assassinating the governor of Kandahar, Afghanistan on Saturday.
The New York Times reported that the governor, Tooryalai Wesa, was unhurt, although two of his guards were killed in the assault. Nick Pickles, director of the privacy group Big Brother Watch, based in Britain, which is critical of full-body scanners, said that tests had demonstrated that weapons could be hidden in pockets of clothing or in shoes to defeat the scanners.*
Avishai Rotshtain, IDO’s Marketing Manager commented, “This unfortunate incident in Afghanistan once again highlights the well known problem of the security gap in detection of threats in the shoes and lower extremities. IDO Security has been working with the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) for over a decade to develop the Magshoe to prevent exactly this type of security breach. Deployment of the MagShoe™ as part of the security checkpoint procedure closes the security gap and raises overall security by providing the unique ability to detect even the smallest of weapons concealed in shoes or the lower legs.”
The innovative “shoes-on” design maximizes security, safety and convenience and is neither invasive nor harmful to the body as some of the other screening devices currently used in the marketplace. The MagShoe™ has been installed in many facilities worldwide including international airports, cruise lines, government agencies, correctional facilities, mints and more.
